Harbor Island Park: Reviews & Ratings
Gorgeous park with a nice variety of water fowl. Playground was large and clean. Same with the baseball fields. As we walked around we found a little beach that was empty except for one family. We also found swinging chairs big enough for 2 or 3 people. Really cute park and it's a nice walk/workout when the weather is nice. Just 2 blocks away is street parking and a nice assortment of restaurants. We went to DonJito and enjoyed the food and drinks (highly recommend).
Harbor Island Park (also known by locals as The Harbor) is one of the prettiest historic parks in Westchester located on the Long Island Sound. It's open to the public, but a reasonable parking fee is required Memorial Day to Labor Day. You can bring your dog, and there are 2 dog runs for big and small dogs. There are numerous sport fields and courts - soccer, baseball, softball, tennis and pickleball. The beach is located at the far end of the park and admission fee is required in the summer. For those who don't like salt water there is a mini spray ground. Be sure to catch the fireworks on July 4th during the week of the Firemen's Carnival. Fishing and Boating - Bait and Tackle shop is at the entrance to the park and there is a public boat ramp and public dock. Numerous private docks for boat storage. In 1661 near the entrance to the park is where John Richbell purchased the land that became Mamaroneck and Larchmont from Siwanoy chief Wappaquewam.
This local park truly has it all! The beach is open during the summer, offering a perfect spot for relaxation and recreation. Throughout the season, the town hosts lively community events—check the schedule at the bulletin board by the beach entrance or visit the Village of Mamaroneck’s website for details. The park also offers a variety of public classes, including yoga by the beach, strength training, and guided programs for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.
This was a very nice park. There is a lot to see and do here. Looking at the boats and water and all the birds is an extra. They have a playground and a beach area. There's a spray area for kids during the summer. There's boating and fishing. There's plenty of picnic tables.
A beautiful 40+ acre park with stunning views of the marina, a playground, and adult swings. There are plenty of activities for kids and adults alike. There is a shack that sells fishing bait and gears. A Marine Education Center is also located in the park. Stephen E Johnson Beach charges US$13 for adults, US$8 for children, and US$6 for seniors when the beach is open for swimming. It is now closed for swimming until the Summer 2025 Beach Season. However, you can walk along the beach when the gate to the beach is open. It's a great place for a picnic, a stroll, walking the dog, or simply admiring the scenery. There is plenty of paid parking and for those taking the train, the park is about a 15-minute walk from the Mamaroneck train station.
I found this park while driving from the city on a Sunday afternoon. It's a great place to sit and relax. The day was perfect which made it more enjoyable. There were a pair of swans swimming around, and the seagulls were flying around and fishing. The park is well-kept and a great place to take a break from the daily routines.
Let me begin by saying this park is clean, you don't see any trash. Only thing you see is poop from the geese. You don't need to be a village resident to visit however there's is a $12 for the parking and $13 to access the beach. Pro tip, is cheaper to park outside and use the meters, is a very short walk into the park. Park is quiet and relaxing, no loud music and dog friendly. You can truly relax watch the boats go by. Definitely worth visiting is your in the area. There's a nice playground aswell.
I only found out about this beautiful beach this year through their beach yoga classes offered every Sunday morning with Sweet Karma Yoga. What a beautiful and serene place for such a beautiful, positive, inclusive and down to earth class!!! I look forward to more beach yoga next summer at Harbor Island Park!
